Years have passed since I last labored through infinitely detailed lesson plans in Mrs. Maria Amelia’s classroom. In my years of teaching I have progressed through the loop of communication alongside students, teachers, parents and administrators and it has become clear to me that the greatest impact I can have is by being directly involved in the preparation of teachers.
Upon starting this new journey through graduate school, and towards the ultimate goal of participating in a pro-active teacher preparation program, I became conscious of one of the biggest divides of our profession. There is diminutive practical communication between institutions of higher education and the teachers in the classrooms. This space is intended to be a small window into theories, research, considerations and beliefs, some of which where utterly alien to me during my years has a classroom teacher. I hope comments and feedback will be forthcoming, for they have the potential to instantly impact those who read LOOPed. We can best help our students by balancing different pedagogies and individually tailoring instruction, constantly improving and developing new strategies. More importantly, we can best serve our students by remaining lifelong learners.
